2024 AUSTRALIA DAY REPORT
The Sunshine Coast Radio Sailing Club held its 2024 Australia Day Regatta with great success.
This saw five teams comprising each of the four classes the club now sails. This included for the first time the newly introduced DF95s as well as the DF65s, Lasers and IOMs. A new model for the day was introduced and with some minor tweaks proved to be very successful. The plan was to minimize the down time between specific classes on the water with all classes racing at the same time. The four fleets started individually together but with staggered starts between each of the four. Separation marks and different windward marks and gates ensured the four fleets for the greater part stayed out of each others way. It is a credit to all who sailed that with so many boats on the water the racing flowed well.
Despite it being a fun day results will interest some. The winning team was Red Emperor – Simon Kellett IOM, Brian Wiley DF 65, Paul Golding Laser and Mark Lewis DF95.
We had a competition for the best team name too. That was taken by Adele’s Navy Blue team – “She’ll be right mate!
As always the standard of the event was first class with plenty of food, drinks and coffee ensured a cheery and sportsmanlike tone presided over the day. At the end of the day there were presentations for belated receivers from the 2023 club competitions as well as prizes for the performances at the regatta. Sun & rain protection was improved with the addition of 2 new 3m x 3m Extreme Marquees made possible with a grant from the Sunshine Coast Council.
Congratulations to the committee members and the many volunteers, who without them the day would not have been possible. The club thanks you!
With the Australian flag flying proudly the celebration of our country by the SCRSC was deemed a fantastic success! Check out numerous photos on the Clubs Facebook page.
